Pharmacy - PGY2 Application

Our program follows the accreditation standards set forth by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). It provides in-depth training on core practice concepts in critical care and broad exposure to a variety of critical care practice settings.

Applicants must be graduates of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy and have successfully completed an ASHP-accedited PGY1 pharmacy practice residency or have equivalent experience. Please contact the RPD to discuss equivalent experience prior to application. Applicants must also be eligible for licensure in North Carolina.

  • Antimicrobial Stewardship
  • Infectious Disease Consults
  • Heart Failure/Mechanical Circulatory Support
  • Transplant
  • Nephrology Consults
  • Second Shift Critical Care

Longitudinal Experiences

Residents will complete a longitudinal research project in addition to a medication use evaluation during the residency year. Projects are designed to answer discrete clinical questions and produce results suitable for presentation and publication. A month long rotation experience is incorporated within the residency year to aid in project completion.

Practice Management
Residents work in conjunction with pharmacy administrators on a variety of initiatives throughout the pharmacy department and institution. These include medication initiatives for safety and cost savings and opportunities related to interdisciplinary committee involvement.

Completion of a teaching certificate program through UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is available for residents not completing this experience during their PGY1 year.. Teaching activities include precepting students and a variety of didactic experiences including lectures in the Critical Care Elective at Campbell University College of Pharmacy, Trauma Grand Rounds, Pharmacy Grand Rounds, Continuing Education for the Eastern NC Region, and inservices to medical and nursing staff.​

Hospital Pharmacy Practice Experience
Pharmacy practice experiences include staffing according to needs of the department and average to approximately one 8-hour shift per week. This typically involves one weekday evening shift per week.

Application Process

Applicants must be graduates of ACPE-accredited schools of pharmacy who have successfully completed (or be completing) an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency. Equivalent experience may be considered. Applicants must be eligible for North Carolina licensure. All materials must be submitted through ASHP’s Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS) prior to the deadline of January 6, 2021. Three professional references are required, with each completing a minimum of 10 of the available comment fields. A separate letter of recommendation is not required. Selection of applicants is based upon academic performance, relevant experience, candidate goals, strength of references and interview. Due to COVID-19, plans related to on site versus virtual interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis..
