Residents will complete a longitudinal research project in addition to a medication use evaluation during the residency year. Projects are designed to answer discrete clinical questions and produce results suitable for presentation and publication. A month long rotation experience is incorporated within the residency year to aid in project completion.
Residents work in conjunction with pharmacy administrators on a variety of initiatives throughout the pharmacy department and institution. These include medication initiatives for safety and cost savings and opportunities related to interdisciplinary committee involvement.
Completion of a teaching certificate program through UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is available for residents not completing this experience during their PGY1 year.. Teaching activities include precepting students and a variety of didactic experiences including lectures in the Critical Care Elective at Campbell University College of Pharmacy, Trauma Grand Rounds, Pharmacy Grand Rounds, Continuing Education for the Eastern NC Region, and inservices to medical and nursing staff.
Hospital Pharmacy Practice Experience
Pharmacy practice experiences include staffing according to needs of the department and average to approximately one 8-hour shift per week. This typically involves one weekday evening shift per week.
