Clinical Pastoral Program

Minister where you’re needed most.

Are you ready to grow in your faith and in your skills? The Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is a postgraduate allied health education and interfaith professional education for ministry. It brings theological students and ministers of all faiths (pastors, priests, rabbis, imams and others) into supervised encounters with people in crisis. And, as you know, this is in an environment where crisis can happen every day. Are you ready to grow? Let’s get started.

Program Summary

Your Fellowship

Welcome. The Year-Long Residency CPE program at Vidant Medical Center is designed for ministers who are seeking to become Board-Certified Chaplains or are pursuing other specialized ministries. It requires a previous unit of CPE and is built on three presuppositions.

The first is that heightened self-awareness strengthens one’s ministry. We believe that the better we know ourselves, the better we represent our God and our faith traditions. The second is that a solid pastoral identity is crucial for competent ministry. Who are you when you enter a patient’s room? The third is that you must be challenged to further develop your relational and pastoral skills.

We see our Residents as partners in this learning enterprise, teachers as well as learners, and responsible members of the pastoral care team.

Management and Executive Exposure

Vidant Medical Center’s Clinical Pastoral Education Program is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., to offer programs of Level I and Level II clinical pastoral education. The Center has been accredited since 2002.
