Vidant Medical Transport provides critical care air and ground service to areas within 150 miles of Greenville, North Carolina. We are based at Vidant Medical Center, home of the region's only Level-1 Trauma Center and Children's Hospital. Vidant Medical Transport is nationally recognized for safety, quality and service. Position Summary

Children's Transport Respiratory Therapist will function as a member of the critical care transport team and be responsible for the care of critically ill and injured pediatric and neonatal patients, by air and ground, working in conjunction with Vidant EastCare. The respiratory therapist administers competent care of patients through airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapies, respiratory care procedures, and advanced practice procedures per Children's Transport medical director and following the North Carolina Office of Emergency Service (NCOEMS) guidelines. You will also be assisting the Children's Hospital respiratory therapists when transports are not required.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate excellence in direct patient and family care prior to and during transport and inpatient care. Provide compassionate, safe and efficient patient and family care by incorporating assessment, stabilization, and intervention techniques consistent with standards, protocols, and guidelines approved by Children's Transport, EastCare, and Children's Hospital Medical Directors.

Responsible for preparing equipment and supplies for transport according to patient needs and mode of transport. Restock bags, vehicles and aircraft post the transport.

Administers standard Respiratory Care including, but not limited to, aerosol medication delivery, pulmonary function testing, oxygen therapy, and arterial punctures. Provides for all aspects of airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tracheostomy tube changes, endotracheal intubations and extubations. May perform respiratory care and advanced practice procedures per Children's Transport medical director and following the North Carolina Office of Emergency Services (NCOEMS) guidelines. These procedures may include UVC, IV insertion, IO insertion, needle decompression, blood glucose monitoring, medication administration, and others as deemed necessary by the Children's Transport medical director.

Maintains natural and artificial patent airway for proper ventilation and oxygenation appropriate for patient's age. Initiates and monitors mechanical ventilation, various medical gases, and delivery systems.

Completes documentation requirements for patient record and billing.
Adheres to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment. Meet specific and measurable goals in operational activities including functioning as part of the transport and unit teams; and sharing in responsibility for the team's conduct. Report any unsafe conditions and/or actions immediately. Immediately report any equipment and/or patient management problems. Assuming responsibility for keeping informed about changes tin practice, policies, and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Associate Degree: with 10 years of RRT experience
Bachelors Degree: preferred
MUST have a bachelor's degree in Respiratory Care and NPS or C-NPT or Associate's Degree with 10 years of clinical experience, including a minimum of 1 year in pediatric or neonatal intensive care, or equivalent critical care transport experience.
Completion of a 2 year AMA approved respiratory care program (Associates degree or equivalent) with 10 years of clinical respiratory therapy experience, with a Bachelors Degree preferred (with a minimum of 2 years in clinical respiratory therapy). Must be RRT. Minimum of 1 year in pediatric or neonatal intensive care, or equivalent critical care transport experience.
BLS, ACLS, NRP and PALS certifications prior to completion of orientation.

EMT certification within one year of completion of orientation.

Neonatal or Pediatric specific certification (NPS or C-NPT).
