Position Summary
The Emergency Nurse Coordinator (ENC) coordinates and facilitates patient care for patients within the service line. The ENC is responsible for overseeing and enforcing criteria for safe quality patient care. The ENC coordinates patient care and staffing resources within emergency services. Through procurement of resources, teaching, guidance of nursing and organizational activities during the designated shift, the ENC facilitates delivery of patient care, patient placement and throughput. The ENC holds accountability/responsibility as a consultant for admission and determines patient placement. The ENC also participates in high acuity/high census decompression of emergency services through initial assessments, patient care, covering triage (if applicable), covering charge nurses to go into staffing, or working with housekeeping to clean patient rooms/delivery rooms to maximize throughput and/or patient transport. The ENC is responsible to ensure EMTALA regulations are maintained through the shift as appropriate for emergency services and keeps constant communication with the patient care coordinators.
