Position Summary

The Staff Nurse demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide clinical care and supervise department partnerships to achieve positive patient outcomes. The Staff Nurse demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life-span, and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information required to identify needs of the patient relative to his/her age and condition.


  • Assists with room clean-up, turn-over and stocking
  • Checks procedure equipment to include all emergency equipment, prior to the first endoscopy case of the day
  • Perform IV insertions and IV medication administration
  • Prepare patients for their procedure and discharge patients
  • Contact patients before and after their procedure
  • Administer conscious sedation under the direction of the Provider
  • Is one of two licensed individuals participating in controlled substance counts as needed according to policy, procedure and state law
  • Knowledge of endoscopy procedures, techniques, symptoms and complications of endoscopy, anesthesia or conscious sedation and consequent nursing interventions
  • Knowledge of actions of pharmaceuticals and sedating agents
  • Able to recognize emergency situations and assist in corrective actions
  • Required to cross-train in High Level Disinfection and assisting the provider during procedures
  • Protects patients and employees by developing and interpreting infection-control policies and protocols; enforcing medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations
  • Knowledge of basic infection control practices
  • Adequate understanding of a wide variety of medical/surgical terminology and pathophysiology, endoscopy procedures and required patient preparations. Skilled in venipuncture
  • Understanding of proper positioning techniques, and sedating agents’ effects, including conscious sedation
  • Knowledge of endoscopy instruments and equipment to include the use, handling and care, especially of endoscopy equipment
  • Practices economy in the use of time, equipment and supplies
  • Assists in organizing and developing policies and procedures
  • Develops effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills
  • Documents accurately, appropriately as required by policies and procedures
  • Trains newly hired staff and nurse students
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by monitoring confidential information processing
  • Must be willing to accept assignments within the limits of the position and to accept extra duties willingly
  • Must be able to identify, analyze and implement effective problem-solving techniques
  • Must display initiative, flexibility, cooperation and adaptability in his/her career approach
  • Must be able to maintain a poised, pleasant and professional manner even in the face of adversity
  • Must show initiative and take responsibility for professional development and continuing education. Strives for self-improvement

Minimum Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma, Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing required
  • Current NC RN license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact State Health Care Provider is required
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support is required
  • American Heart Association ACLS is required, but may be obtained once hired
