ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet® designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people.

Responsibilities

Leads team schedule and trains employees: oversees daily operations of the Pathology Lab Outreach site(s); new team members are properly oriented and training is documented by this role. Assures efficient operation of the Outreach Laboratory. Notifies Outreach Supervisor/Manager of any attendance performance and customer issues. Fosters morale and teamwork. Monitors integrity of patient sample collections and processes and reports the findings to the Supervisor/Manager. Assures site equipment is functioning properly on a daily basis. Maintains housekeeping duties, inventory and orders supplies. Works efficiently, documents work clearly, and performs tests accurately. Executes specialized collections and leads assigned team projects. Ensures the client receives quality results by reviewing laboratory data for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to: company laboratory, State, and CDC guidelines. Initiates and performs patient test inquiries or investigations, and reports back to the Supervisor/Lab Manager. Records workload, informs the Supervisor/Lab Manager of all activities and personnel problems, and shares appropriate communication with team members. Assumes additional responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Supervisor or Lab Manager.

Minimum Requirements

Valid High School or equivalent degree required - higher degree preferred.

0-2 years of relevant experience required - relevant Supervisory experience preferred.

Demonstrated ability to manage, teach, make independent decisions and assume responsibility.
Strong interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels of staff.
Working knowledge and experience with PC-based applications, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Working knowledge and experience with a telephone, computer, keyboard, mouse, calculator/adding machine fax and copier, a/v equipment.
Futuristic approach to the development of programs/systems that support continuous quality improvement and the company's Mission, Vision, and Values.
Ability to function as a leader, team member and execute the desired outcomes.
Must exhibit creative, positive problem-solving abilities.
Ability to foster collaboration between multiple parties.
Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts to groups.
Ability to think conceptually and apply concepts in a practical application.
Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and determines a course of action.
Ability to consider diverse opinions and incorporate them into the decision-making process.
Proven track record of implementing organization-wide projects.
Commitment to a high standard of customer service. Excellent budget and financial management skills.

Performs tasks which involve exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue.

*Please note:
Normal climate-controlled office environment. This role does require standing and reaching, as well as occasional lifting, pushing and pulling up to 20 lbs. Extensive use of hands for keyboard; extensive use of talking and hearing in telephone communication and meeting participation. Must be able to work long and sometimes irregular hours. Must be open to some travel within the System and limited travel outside of the region to attend meetings, seminars, etc.

Other Information

  • Full time position with benefits
  • Team member would work 12 hour shifts. The Units (COVID site, Main Lab and Outreach hours are between 6:30am to 11:30pm. Team member would rotate between these departments. Specific work hours will be determined based on need and discussed if interviewed)
  • Ability to work in varying environmental conditions and weather variations (postiion will be required to work outdoors as needed)
