Vidant Medical Center is a 900+ bed Level-1 Trauma Center, regional referral hospital and is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health. We serve as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. Position Summary

  • Responsible for transcribing medical dictation to provide a permanent record of patient care.

  • Will report any problems with the workflow or mechanical equipment failure.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

  • Distributes courtesy copies of dictation to appropriate physician offices.

  • Assists with data capture on electronic media.

  • Performs release of information.

  • Works with physicians, patients and other employees when necessary.

  • Preps, scans and indexes medical records into the EHR.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School or equivalent is required

  • Required 1 to 2 years experience as a medical transcriptionist

  • Prefer a 2 year degree in medical office administration or related

  • Background in medical terminology is required

  • Knowledge in EHR and software programs(Excel and Word) is required

  • May substitute 2 year degree for the 2 years experience.
