Position Summary

The Lead Lab Tech functions as a generalist staff technologist (technician) under the direction of the Laboratory Manager, overseeing section efficiency in workflow processing and testing protocols. He/she is the technical resource in their area of expertise, providing staff orientation, training, competency evaluation and coordination of activities to bring about change in the pursuit of improved operations for their respective departments. The Lead Lab Tech must develop and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with all hospital departments, employees and medical staff. The Lead Lab Tech will be responsible for daily supervision of the Laboratory staff. Will work closley with and will report to the Laboratory Manager (at Vidant Edgecomb Hospital).

Minimum Requirements

  • High school plus 2 years of formal education is required
  • The employee must have graduated from an accredited  medical laboratory  technician or technology program
  • 3 to 5 years experience is required
  • Successful completion of MT(ASCP), MLT(ASCP) or HEW examination with a minimum of four (4) years of clinical laboratory experience in the following disciplines: 






Special Chemistry


  • Previous supervisory or management experience is preferred but not required

Other Information

  • Full-Time (40 hours a week)
  • Monday - Friday (8:30 am - 5:30 pm)
  • Every 3rd Saturday rotation (8 am to noon)
