The Ambulatory Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer (ACMIO) is an intermediary between physician and Information Services (IS) leadership and works under the direction of the CMIO. Partners with IS to maximize the utility of Clinical Information Systems to improve patient outcomes, patient experience, safety, quality of care, and operational efficiency. Works closely with the CMIO, the Clinical Informatics team and IS team to align priorities with the strategic mission of Vidant Medical Group.
Responsible for supporting the medical staff and technologies they utilize to provide high quality care. Responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating systems and solutions based on physician user needs. Responsible for working with ambulatory physician users to define current state workflows and develop future state workflows that meet physician needs aligned with the strategic initiatives. Relies on their clinical experience and judgment with a wide degree of latitude in carrying out duties including complicated tasks, leading small projects, designing/reviewing clinical curriculum, serving as a clinical EHR trainer to colleagues, and providing guidance for others. Responsible for delivering high level of customer service based on user needs in a manner aligned with physician and supporting staff workflow and priorities. Works with minimal supervision and provides guidance for others. Knowledgeable of and adheres to commonly used information technology concepts, practices, and procedures relevant to clinical technology and design. Focuses mainly on the electronic health record (EHR) design but will also advise on other technology leveraged by clinicians, including but not limited to voice recognition software, secure communication/texts apps, analytics and clinical decision support. Focus on the application of clinical data, analytics, and clinical decision support.
Assists the CMIO in the vision, strategy, and deployment of clinical and analytics technology. Collaborates with healthcare and information technology leaders across Vidant Health to analyze, design, implement and evaluate technology that enhances individual patient and population health outcomes, optimizes patient experience, and strengthens the clinician-patient relationship. As a Clinical Informatics professional, applies knowledge of patient care combined with their understanding of informatics concepts, methods, and tools to: assess information and knowledge needs of healthcare professionals and patients. Characterize, evaluate, and refine clinical processes; develop, implement, and refine clinical decision support systems; and lead or participate in the procurement, customization, implementation, management, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems. Provides broad support to Vidant Health efforts to develop and use data science and analytics to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and value of existing programs and new business opportunities.

Doctor of Medicine (MD)/Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree). Current, active, unrestricted license to practice medicine in NC. Board certified physician. Board certified in Clinical Informatics or additional formal training in clinical informatics strongly preferred.
Five (5) years' experience in the healthcare field, including some previous responsibility specifically focused on clinical informatics/analytics direction and management within health agencies/organizations.
Five (5) years of clinical practice leveraging an EHR.
Expert knowledge, insight and ability to successfully anticipate and respond to trends, key initiatives and programs in the evolving healthcare informatics field.
Ability to lead organizational change by focusing on driving value, pursuing innovation, overcoming resistance, and being a catalyst for effective change.
Excellent strategic planning skills and effective in leading multidisciplinary teams in the execution of strategic initiatives.
Ability to translate practical experiences and realities of medical practice into opportunity and vision for the future.
Strategic and critical thinking skillset with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
Excellent speaking/writing communication skills and demonstrated expertise in presenting and discussing clinical/scientific information with a broad set of stakeholders/audiences.
Experience in the healthcare field, including some previous responsibility specifically focused on clinical informatics/analytics direction and management within health agencies/organizations.
