Position Summary

The ultrasound technologist produces two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by the physician in diagnosing disease and studying malfunction of organs. He/She modifies and delivers care that is specific to the age, growth and level of development of patients including adolescent, adult, and geriatric. The technologist must be familiar with all Radiologist Protocols for general ultrasound examinations.

Responsibilities

1. Produces two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by the physician in diagnosing disease and studying malfunction of organs.
2. He/She modifies and delivers care that is specific to the age, growth and level of development of patients including adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
3. Explains process to the patient and instructs and assists the patient in assuming physical position for the exam.
4. Selects correct transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to the organ to be examined.
5. Keys test data and patient information into the computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
6. Keys/Scans test data and patient information into the computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
7. Makes sure all images are received in PACS.
8. Reviews the patient's chart for physician's order, patient's clinical history, including lab values.
9. Applies scanning techniques to the keyboard function.
10. Understands labeling of images.
11. Assists in performing life-saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary.

Minimum Requirements

Two Year Degree Required
Diagnostic technologist RT( R ), preferred but not required.
The employee must have an ARDMS registration with current certification (with OB/GYN specialty, preferred for OBGYN Clinic ONLY) or registry obtained within the first six months of employment.
A minimum of two (2) years AMA accredited program in radiologic technology or ultrasound.
CPR Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
