Vidant Duplin Hospital is an 81-bed facility located in Kenansville, North Carolina and has 20 practicing physicians on its active medical staff. Vidant Duplin serves Duplin County and surrounding communities in Eastern North Carolina with a population of approximately 60,000 people. On an annually basis, it serves 3,800 inpatients and over 52,000 outpatients (including nearly 30,0000 ED visits), in addition to a surgical volume of 2,050.
Under the Clinical Supervision of the Medical Director of the Clinical Laboratory and the overall supervision of the Laboratory Department Manager, Lead Techs, Medical Technologists (MTs), must maintain a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.
MTs must perform clinical laboratory tests in all areas of the laboratory by standard operating policies and procedures.
MTs must understand method principles; perform quality control testing & calibrations; perform preventive maintenance; review and analyze results to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits.
Reviews test results for abnormal or critical values for each age group as indicated. All Laboratory employees must work according to rotation of schedule and the needs of the facility and department when deemed necessary by the Laboratory Manager.
In addition, the MT is responsible for maintaining his/her area to include quality control data review, updates to procedures and policies, inventory and cost control.
As a member of a team of health care professionals, a MT operates laboratory equipment accurately and efficiently, demonstrates a commitment to excellence in patient/staff relations, contributes to continuous quality improvement, functions as a member of the patient care team, chooses best site collections from patients of all ages in a wide variety of clinical settings.
MTs will behave in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of all health care professionals. In addition to performing laboratory procedures, MTs are involved in clinical decision-making such as recognizing patient status changes, selection of best possible site for blood collections, and assessment of patients that have a need for central line placement to obtain a sample) MTs are required to document in the electronic medical record accurate, complete, orders when received from outpatients.
ASCP/AMT registry eligible with certification obtained within 12 months from hire date or registry eligibility date.
Active status with certifying agency recommended.
