Vidant Medical Transport provides critical care air and ground service to areas within 150 miles of Greenville, North Carolina. We are based at Vidant Medical Center, home of the region's only Level-1 Trauma Center and Children's Hospital. Vidant Medical Transport is nationally recognized for safety, quality and service. Position Summary

The EastCare Transport Coordinator (ETC) is responsible for the coordination of patient transfers to VMC, to an appropriate Vidant Health Community Hospital or to a Non-Vidant Health Hospital. The ETC collaborates with the Patient Placement Facilitator, Patient Placement Coordinators and the Communications Center Specialist, and acts as a clinical resource and facilitator for all interfacility transfers. The ETC utilizes computer technology to facilitate multi- faceted communications and applies nursing knowledge derived from education and experience as foundation for transfer facilitation, communication, and documentation.

In addition to the basic responsibilities per RN job description, the ETC facilitates all regional referrals, the ETC may facilitate transfers, admissions, bed requests from inpatient, outpatient, clinics, pre-admits, and for cardiovascular and medical/surgical services.

The ETC is expected to:
Creates patient records in the Teletracking Transfer Center electronic database and updates active database accounts regularly.

Maintains compliance with EMTLA, JCAHO and DHSR regulations and standards.

Demonstrates broad spectrum of knowledge and clinical competence related to assessing the patient transfer and placement needs, including those associated with invasive and noninvasive procedures, surgeries, STEMIs and Code Strokes.

Identifies clinical and departmental barriers and collaborates with the Patient Care Coordinator and Patient Placement Facilitator to eliminate choke points and maximize patient throughput at VMC.
Coordinates hospital-to-hospital transfers, in accordance with state and federal regulations. Provides medical interpretation of diagnoses and specialized patient care needs.

Serves as a hospital and physician resource and is proficient in maintaining compliance with Access to Care Laws. Provides follow-up to referring practitioners and facilities regarding referral status time frames.
Perform initial utilization management screening

The EastCare Transport Coordinator functions as a part of the Communications Center and shares responsibility for working cooperatively with all team members. The EastCare Transport Coordinator dispatches and communicates with all EastCare assets, maintains logs and records, and performs other duties as assigned. The Eastcare Communications Coordinator will uphold the mission, goals, and objectives, of EastCare and the Vidant Health System at all times.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN Licensure in the State of North Carolina with at least 3 years of experience in a patient care environment utilizing clinical and assessment skills is required.
  • 3 years Emergency Department, ICU or prior transport experience preferred.
  • Epic, emsCharts and Zoll RightCAD user experience preferred
  • Utilization management experience preferred
  • Prior emergency telecommunications experience preferred
