As a Health Care Interpreter (Spanish), you will provide oral interpretation between speakers with limited English proficiency (LEP) and the healthcare team. Communication includes conveying meaning accurately between and among patients with LEP or other communication barriers, their families, and team members. Limited written translation is also required.
Associate Degree or higher
National Certification as a Certified Medical Interpreter or Certified Healthcare Interpreter is required within 2 years of hire
Up to two years of related experience
Demonstrated language proficiency in speaking and listening in primary and secondary languages. Proficiency must be equivalent to Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) skill level 3+ or higher
Bilingual professional experience that required daily interaction in primary and secondary languages
Degrees of equivalent level attained outside of the U.S. can be used to meet the educational requirement
Two or more years of satisfactory supervised work experience as a healthcare interpreter in an acute care hospital or public health care setting
Knowledge of medical terminology
Education and/or work experience in candidate's non-native country
