Information Services at Vidant Health

Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the implementation, enhancement, and support of software applications following industry standards and best practice. The analyst will be required to define requirements, system design, analysis, build/configuration, testing, implementation, documentation, and support the applications that meet the specifications of a project or service request. The analyst will support growth in population health management needs of the organization and readiness for value ase care arangements.  In addition, the analyst will be managing numerous clinical disease registries, leveraging data linking of various external data sources, rules engines, developing dashboards and assoicated reporting for quality and performance monitoring of multiple contracts.


  • All Application Analysts are required to provide all core job duties for, but not limited to, the following applications to provide comprehensive tools for end users:  

    • Epic Electronic Medical Record, specifically EpicCare Ambulatory EMR, Healthy Planet, EpicCare Link, Care Everywhere, MyChart, SmartForms, Haiku/Canto, Advanced Care Management and associated Epic tools such as Registries, Data Link, Radar Dashboards, and Reporting Workbench 
    • Work with vendors and external partners to download beneficiary, utilization and quality data on a monthly basis. Upload quality metrics to external partners
    • Responsible for data collection, dashboards, and management of data delivery to groups, practices, providers and all other stakeholders on a monthly basis
    • Perform quality assurance on all data sources to ensure accuracy as well as usefulness of the reporting elements
    • Integrated third party vendor content from IMO, Surescripts, and Krames Staywell or others as necessary

Minimum Requirements

  • Associate degree or equivalent work, training and experience required
  • Ability to provide value-added support to one or more applications
  • Independently motivated to seek knowledge through self-education, mentoring, etc. in areas pertaining to their current position.
  • Obtains and maintains current certification from the vendor and continued education/learning to understand the functionality of applications(s) supported as applicable to the job role.

For individuals clinically trained

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of clinical scope of practice and workflows for roles within clinical setting.
  • Ability to communicate clinical concepts to technical team.
  • Understands application and clinical workflow

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field preferred
  • Training in system analysis preferred
  • Experience as analyst implementing and testing vendor packaged software applications preferred
  • Experience in health care setting preferred

Additional Requirements  

  • Application Analyst II-IV must have progressive experience with healthcare vendor applications, specifically in large scale EMR implementations.    

  • Ambulatory clinical, population health management programs, patient centered care or quality improvement in a practice or hospital setting preferred for Application Analyst I & II and required for level III & IV.    

  • Certifications:  

    • Application Analyst I & II required to complete and maintain one primary Epic Certification (eg. EpicCare Ambulatory, Healthy Planet, or EpicCare Link). Prior approval by manager for a secondary or more focused certification is required.

    • Application Analyst III & IV required to complete and maintain one primary Certification directly related to the application and at least one secondary Certification, Proficiency, or a minimum of two Epic Badges. Manager approval is required for all secondary certifications, proficiencies, and badges to ensure relevancy and applicability to the role.
