Position Summary

Conducts internal auditing and monitoring of coding accuracy and documents the findings with support tied to regulatory guidance.  Develops and coordinates education that will ensure success based on the individuals¿ specific needs.  Maintains documentation of all audit activity and communicates findings with leadership as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate expertise in the use of analytical and statistical approaches, tools, specifications and techniques including understanding of how process goals are established, measured, and monitored.

  • Analyze comparative data, benchmarks, and evidence-based practices for possible adaptation into the organization while ensuring identified sources are valid and reliable information.
  • Develop dashboards and scorecards to show internal data as well as benchmark comparisons.
  • Project management including responsible for strong communication, collaboration with key stakeholders, planning, organizing, leading workgroups and directing the completion of specific projects for an organization while ensuring these projects are on time, on budget, within scope with departmental, a sustainable process and organizational priorities, and incorporates evidence-based guidelines.
  • As a subject matter expert, ensure the facts and details are correct so that the project's deliverables will meet the needs of the stakeholders, regulatory requirements, policies, standards, and best practices including serving as analytics platform administrator or content steward as required.
  • Report management & visualization, including ability to prepare appropriate context in the form of comparative data, historical data, or information gleaned from best practice literature. Communicate improvement priorities and results using narrative and visual tools by creating graphs and charts that accurately reflect valid interpretation of findings. Synthesize information from relevant resources including national organizations to demonstrate current practice and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Produces routine reports from databases and assists leaders and department staff in developing customized reports.
  • Train others on procedures of specific analytics platforms that address the specific problem at hand and oach others on report building strategies.
  • Data Management
    • Load and extract data from current quality databases.
    • Establishes data dictionaries as appropriate and routinely validates data sources and outputs.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, define, and prioritize data elements and data collections methodology.
    • Implement processes to streamline data collection efforts.
    • Maintain responsibility to manage databases including specifications, training, and communication related to those databases.
  • Apply techniques and tools to identify variation and its cause. Design and verify evaluation methodology to determine completeness and accuracy of data based on valid formulas.
  • Apply current, relevant performance methods to achieve successful outcomes and se evidence-based structured improvement methods for all quality improvement projects. Design solutions to address opportunities based on benchmarks, goal comparison, data analysis, and correction actions.
  • Independently manages individual work and demonstrates self-direction in area of assigned responsibility.

  • Accepts responsibility for actions and decisions

Minimum Requirements

  • At least three years of multidisciplinary physician based coding or auditing experience required

  • Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management or Associates Degree in Health Information Technology required

  • RHIA or RHIT certification required

  • Registered Nurse with active license in NC, and a minimum of 5 years of physician based coding and documentation audit experience plus CPC or CCS-P certification, may be substituted for the education and experience requirement

  • CCS, CCS-P, CPC, CEMC or CPMA in addition to the above required credential preferred

  • Prior experience performing physician based coding audits and providing education preferred
