About Children’s Transport Flight Nurse
The Children’s Transport Team provides critical care air and ground service to Maynard Children’s Hospital for neonatal and pediatric patients less than six years of age. Based at Vidant Medical Center, home of the region’s only Level-1 Trauma center and the regional Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Transport flight nurse provides ICU level care during transport to Maynard Children’s Hospital from referring facilities. As a part of the CAMTS (the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems) Vidant Medical Transport service, safety and quality care delivery is a top-priority. The Maynard Children’s Hospital, with 121 inpatient beds and a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, provides the regions only Children’s Hospital. With one of the largest NICU’s in the state and robust pediatric sub-specialty services, the Children’s Transport flight nurse provides an essential service in ensuring safe patient transport from other facilities to Maynard Children’s Hospital for those patient’s needing tertiary level services. Becoming a flight nurse with Maynard Children’s Hospital provides an elite opportunity for neonatal and pediatric nurses interested in skill development, autonomy, leadership, and professional growth.
Renders advanced life support care to critically ill or injured pediatric and neonatal patients during transport in adherence with established protocols and standards of care.
Prioritizes quality of care delivery for the Children’s Transport Team, leading quality initiatives within the team, and utilizes all opportunities to educate others on the best practices within the care of sick children.
Engages in professional growth and development, continuing competence, and life-long learning.
Maintains pediatric and neonatal competencies for safe-delivery of care in transport through assisting within Maynard Children’s Hospital when not transporting.
Associated Degree Nursing (ADN) required, Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Registered Nurse or temporary North Carolina licensure or status as defined in job description
3 years of experience as an RN required with neonatal or pediatric background. Prior work history within a NICU, PICU, Critical Care or Children’s Flight Program preferred.
Current BLS required. ACLS, PALS, NRP and a Trauma Certification obtained before end of orientation. EMT within one year from end of orientation.
One specialty certification in neonatal/pediatric field obtained within 2 years of hire.
Meets all the other criteria/requirements as defined by EastCare Policy and Procedure.
