Manages the daily activities in the delivery of quality patient care within the area of Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Clinical Support or Anatomic Pathology. Administers policies and manages personnel within area of expertise daily and all departments in Pathology in the absence of the Administrator, on weekends and holidays. Maintains adequate inventories of supplies and reagents to perform testing. Assures adequate equipment is available, operational and performance monitored. Monitors current accreditation standards to ensure department compliance with all regulatory agencies. (CAP, JCAHO, NCCLS, CLIA, ASHI, OSHA, Federal Regulations, and AABB). Develops, plans and audits departmental goals and budget. Monitors and serves as a resource for activities related to physical plant, data processing, and educational training of students, regional laboratories, and Departmental/Hospital committees.
Bachelor's Degree or higher
Major: Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Cytotechnology (as appropriate)
Specialty training and certification in technical areas preferred or graduate education in scientific discipline
ASCP, AMT, HEW, or equivalent certification required
Progressive experience within area of concentration (blood bank,transfusion services)
Experience must be recent. Experience should be as a generalist for at least one year to gain knowledge in all areas of the laboratory with bench level working skills for an additional 5 years in the area of concentration to develop technical expertise to manage the area
Supervisory experience and management classes are needed to assist with skills to manage people
