Position Summary

The Communications Coordinator position is an entry-level position that requires a detail-oriented, innovative and forward-thinking marketing & communications professional who is passionate and driven by excellence in a team environment. The Communications Coordinator is solution-focused, well-organized and finds high value in building relationships across teams. Understanding the value of marketing & communications, this individual supports local and system-wide strategies, messaging and channels, while advising and partnering with various departments across the health system.

This position reports to the Associate Director, External Communications and is a member of the Marketing and Communications team.


  • Writes, edits, designs and publishes content across numerous internal and external channels 

  • Consults, collaborates and implements a variety of local and system-wide marketing & communications strategies, plans and tactics that support and align with the organizations mission, vision and values

  • Provides media relations assistance and support while on-call and/or as needed as part of issues/crisis response

  • Collaborates on the creation, execution and adaptation of market research, purchasing of print, outdoor and radio media

  • Acts as a champion and change agent for the Brand Communications team by assessing needs, then evaluating options, developing and driving change initiatives through a numerous strategies and tactics

  • Innovates and collaborates with the MarComm team to foster a positive, motivating and relationship-focused culture

  • Demonstrates mindfulness and sound judgment by effectively advising and supporting leaders on marketing & communication strategies, messaging and channels

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related discipline - preferred

  • One to three years of experience in a communications, marketing or related function - preferred

  • Media, reporting within any type of news outliet - newspaper, news station - preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be a creative thinker, self-motivated and have the ability to thrive in a high-energy, fast paced, positive, team-spirited environment that often involves a heavy workload

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic, fast paced team

  • Key qualities include high energy, positive attitude, team player, self-starter, highly organized with the ability to multi-task, while meeting tight deadlines

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher
