We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department. Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.
As a community hospital, we offer a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services. We meet the health care needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of 35,000 swells to 250,000 in the summer months.

The Emergency Services Director provides clinical and administrative leadership and expertise; facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among all team members. The nursing Director serves as a positive role model and sets the tone for a climate for effective performance while allocating available resources to promote efficient, effective, and quality nursing/patient care. Contributes to the development and implementation of strategic planning processes, day-to-day operations, and the attainment of organizational and departmental goals. The Director is accountable for the management of patient care, human, fiscal, regulatory compliance as well as the total environment of the department on a twenty-four-hour basis.
Collaborates with colleagues at Vidant Health and Chesapeake Health Authority, utilizing participative leadership skills for the coordination of operations in a manner, which is consistent with organizational goals, vision and mission. The director actively participates in the organization’s leadership functions and collaborates with other organization leaders in designing and providing services.
Key responsibilities include the operational oversight of areas that include the Emergency Department, Respiratory Therapy and Echo Cardiology outpatient services.
Current North Carolina RN or Compact License
BS in Nursing required, MSN or equivalent preferred
BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications required
NIHSS within 6 months of hire
TNCC, ENPC and CEN preferred
Stroke Center designation experience preferred
Minimum of five years progressive management experience required.
Five years hospital emergency department experience required.
Utilizing their knowledge and research from the following areas:
organizational behavior and collaboration
management systems and processes
health practice standards, law, regulation and ethics, health care economics
environmental health and hospital support systems
culture development and change management
This is a full-time exempt position.
This position oversees Echo Cardiology and Respiratory Care.
This position is eligible for management benefits.
