NSIU provides care for patients with neuro-medicine and neurosurgical diagnoses that is not limited to:
Acute Stroke management (ischemic, hemorrhagic, SAH, etc.)
Post Neuro-surgical management (craniotomy, lumbar drains, complex neuro-spine, Deep Brain Stimulation, Carotid Endarterectomy)
Seizure management (epilepsy, post-ictal and pseudo-seizures)
Demyelinating diseases of the brain (Multiple Sclerosis)
Demyelinating Polyneuropathies (Guillain-Barre)
Trach and Vent management

Neuroscience Intermediate Unit is a challenging, fast-paced environment with lots of learning opportunities to gain knowledge on medical and surgical care with a specialized focus in neuroscience. This team has achieved excellent patient outcomes proved by their honor to be an AACN Silver-level Beacon of Excellence in nursing unit. RN ratio for 1:4 and 2:6 depending on patient acuity
Flexible scheduling options with self-scheduling
Responsible to provide care in accordance with the NC BON Nurse Practice Act, ANA Standards of Practice and other standards and policies in accordance with Vidant Health.
Associate Degree or Diploma is required.
Bachelors Degree is preferred.
0 - 2 years experience is required.
Current NC RN license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact state Health Care Provider is required.
Basic Life Support is required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities required: (i.e. supervision, computers, etc.)
Flexibility in scheduling to meet the twenty four (24) hour needs of the patients.
Possess organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
Ability to utilize effective and confidential communication in patient, interdisciplinary, and staff relationships.
Maintains stable performance levels under conditions of pressure and multiple demands.
Working knowledge and experience with PC-based applications.
