In It Together
As a cancer survivor, Ben Hocutt knows what high-quality care means to patients. That empathy allows him to walk beside them—and their families—through some pretty tough times. Ben prides himself on being part of a team of Vidant professionals who all take ownership of the standard of care that their patients receive.
CARING FOR PATIENTS, INTENSIVELY
A dream to become an anesthesiologist started Hocutt down a path to the Intensive Care Unit. His mother, a nurse, suggested that he explore opportunities as a nurse anesthetist. After making his way into the ICU, Hocutt found that he enjoyed journeying alongside critically-ill patients, and being a part of their progression, their recovery and, ultimately, their release to go back home. Discovering what patients need most and seeing to it that those needs are met drive Hocutt every day in the Cardiac ICU at Vidant Medical Center.
“WE’RE ALL IN IT TOGETHER. THIS ISN’T JUST MY PATIENT; IT’S OUR PATIENT.”
Hocutt says the collaborative atmosphere at Vidant allows him and his team to provide the high level of care their patients deserve. From nursing staff, to attending physicians, to pharmacists and respiratory specialists, every step of a patient’s journey at Vidant is a team effort. “Every one of us brings different things to the team,” Hocutt says, “and all of us are very invested in providing that same high quality level of care for our patients.”
“Vidant is, by far, an amazing place to be a nurse.”
