Nurse Residency Program for new graduates

Nursing is an ever-changing field and the perfect way to learn is by joining one of the nation's most dynamic health care systems, Vidant health, where virtually every clinical opportunity awaits you.

Our Nurse Residency Program gives you the opportunity to choose from nearly any clinical area to find the best fit for your professional goals. It refines and enhances the skills you already have by pairing you with a strong mentor to support your growth along the way. After completing our 3-6 month new graduate orientation program, you'll have more practical experience and more confidence in your hands-on nursing skills.

As a nurse resident in our progressive system of care, you'll quickly develop the professional skills that set you apart and set you up for an outstanding career. You may have the opportunity to:

  • Be part of a cohort of other new graduate nurses
  • Work side by side with clinical coaches
  • Participate in simulation laboratory experiences
  • Be mentored by a nurse educator who will stimulate your critical thinking skills
  • Experience rotations with other key health care professionals
  • Participate in nursing councils and/or other professional groups within the organization

Program Prerequisites and Information

  • ADN or BSN required
  • North Carolina RN license must be active prior to start date
  • 0-6 months of hospital RN experience
  • Full-time position
  • Cohorts start in February and during the summer
  • You will work the schedule of your clinical coach(s) throughout orientation
  • Reference letters must be submitted prior to your start date. We require two (2) Clinical References on school letterhead from nursing instructors with at least one (1) being a senior level instructor.
  • Shift and weekend differentials are available after completing residency orientation.
  • Nursing students can work with us as Nursing Assistants while in nursing school.
