The PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy residency is an ASHP-accredited program that offers rotations in a variety of settings including Medicine ICU, Surgical/Trauma ICU, Cardiac ICU, Cardiac Surgery ICU, Pediatric ICU and the Emergency Department. Pharmacists provide clinical services in each of the 24-bed ICUs and the 58-bed Emergency Department. Additionally, pharmacists provide extended evening clinical services to ICU patients. As a Level I trauma center and regional referral center, our institution provides advanced critical care services throughout the region and ensures that the resident encounters a variety of critically ill patients. Additionally, the East Carolina Heart Institute provides mechanical circulatory support services to patients including durable LVADs and ECMO.

Critical care pharmacists and the PGY2 Critical Care Resident serve as members on a variety of institutional committees including Critical Care Matrix, Code Blue, Blood Conservation, Stroke, Trauma and Mechanical Circulatory Support/LVAD. They also provide education to pharmacy students, medical and surgical residents and nursing staff.
