One of the main goals of the Vidant Medical Center PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program is to purposefully groom residents to be exceptional clinicians who are capable and willing to be dynamic leaders. By customizing each residency experience, residents will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to meet healthcare challenges today and in the future.

While meeting ASHP’s standards for residency training, our program is very flexible, structured and designed to meet the individual goals of each resident. As such, residents may select seven (7) months of electives from our total offering of 25 elective experiences. While all PGY1 residencies provide general experiences, our program allows the maximal amount of individualization within the generalist footprint so that the resident is uniquely prepared for their future following residency. Each resident completes a research project, Medication Use Evaluation, drug monograph, participates in multidisciplinary committees, learns pharmacy practice management and contributes to the staffing within the pharmacy department. Additionally, all residents provide multiple presentations and lectures throughout the year including an ACPE program to pharmacists in the community.
