Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

The Virtual Care/Telehealth/Telepresence Technology Engineer and support specialist’s role is to ensure proper operation of all systems and devices associated with the virtual care division so end users may accomplish business tasks without interruption. This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting and actively resolving end user help requests as well as device registrations and troubleshooting. This position will serve as the liason between the Virtual Care Committee and Informations Services Department.


Participates in the development of ongoing services and expansion of Virtual Care / Telehealth services.

Develops and monitors performance/outcome metrics and conducts analysis of existing Virtual Care programs and services. Makes recommendations to management for alternative methods to enhance costs efficiencies, productivity, improved process performance and capital utilization.

Works closely with vendors with all aspect of Virtual Care services provided at various locations.

Works closely with Design and Construction and other contractors to ensure optimal virtual care design and room layout.

Evaluate documented resolutions to virtual care and/or teleconference issues and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.


Document and identify emerging trends in incidents; work to resolve these trends independently.


Assist in software releases and roll-outs and communication to the end users.


Actively support various virtual care, teleconferencing software and hardware across all levels of the organization.


Actively work to evaluate new software/hardware which may be available currently or will be coming to market soon. Make recommendations to leadership regarding use of new technology.


Field incoming requests both telephone and e-mail to ensure courteous, timely and effective resolution of end user issues.


Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting.


Access software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and FAQ resources on the Internet/Intranet to aid in problem resolution.


Identify and learn all related appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.


Develop help sheets and FAQ lists for end users.


Performs other duties or functions as assigned.


Minimum Requirements

  • Experience with various virtual care/teleconferencing software and hardware is essential for success in this role
