Information Services at Vidant Health               

Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC.  The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities.  Vidant Health has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Wired healthcare organizations by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 1 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Responsibilities

The Vice President, Technical Infrastructure Services serves as the technology strategist for Vidant Health (Vidant). The Vice President, Technical Infrastructure Services will be the architect of technical strategy and standards for Vidant's infrastructure to enable delivery and high availability of standard, health system clinical and business applications. This position works with Information Services (IS) and business leadership to define and implement policies, procedures and technical solutions that ensure interoperability, manage security risks, lower total cost of ownership and provide a platform for scalable future growth. As a business executive, the Vice President, Technical Infrastructure will offer business rationale and perspective to technology problems and opportunities. This position will be a technology advocate throughout the organization for the effective application of technology to meet business needs and to support business changes and growth. This position is responsible for the direction of IS technology functions and management of Technical Infrastructure staff. Technology functions include local and wide area data networks, desktop, server, image and all other communications and processing systems, as well as, data center operations. This position demonstrates strong influence and communications skills to interact successfully and effectively within the IS department and with business unit leaders. The VP, Technical Infrastructure Services reports to the Chief Information Officer.

  • Talent Management. Demonstrates a commitment to employee professional development by providing opportunities for assuming new and varied responsibilities, training and development, and coaching and mentoring by management and staff.
  • Financial Management. Demonstrates a commitment to the effective utilization of IS human and financial resources by developing and monitoring capital and operating budgets and a multi-year financial plan to support the IS Strategic Plan.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's/Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, computer technology, information management or related field strongly desired.
  • Highly experienced senior level information systems professional with a strong technical background and proven track record of accomplishments in a large, complex multi-entity organization.
  • A track record of successfully implementing IS strategies at an enterprise level, including the selection, implementation, operation and maintenance of large-scale systems over multiple hardware and software platforms.
  • Experience in the healthcare industry would be ideal, with an understanding of the industry's drivers, direction and operations.
  • Prior experience delivering high availability systems in a 24/7 environment across geographically dispersed business units.
  • Experience with Unix, Active Directory, Cisco, Microsoft suite of products (Exchange, Sharepoint, Lynx), EMC storage solutions, HP and enterprise monitoring solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate evaluation of technologies and achieve consensus on technical standards and solutions among a diverse group of information technology professionals.

 Preferred Requirements

  • A technically strong individual with a broad and deep knowledge of hardware platforms, operating systems, software development languages, commercially leading database management systems, storage technologies and data communications.
  • Equally adept at developing technology strategies and the operation of existing technical infrastructures. Significant experience and knowledge of computing architectures and implementation of networked computing structures.
  • Ability to motivate and manage diverse technical staff and resources in multiple projects through all life-cycle phases, while establishing direction and standards and maintaining a high level of user trust and confidence in the group’s knowledge of and concern for users business needs.
  • Polished professional with demonstrated information technology experience and strong communication skills that can rapidly gain and maintain credibility with business leaders and IS colleagues. Able to translate information technology jargon into terms understandable by all audiences.
  • Innovative thinker who understands the practical application of technology and is able to plan for systems today that will carry the organization into the future.
  • Thoroughly understands customer operations, anticipates needs, and pursues effective and efficient solutions.
  • Experience managing to service level agreements in either an insourced or outsourced professional services operation.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, staff, end users, all levels of management, and vendors.

Other Information

  • Frequency and duration of travel is dependent on organizational priorities and the need for face-to-face interaction with operating unit leadership and staff. Travel to Vidant Health Community Hospitals, Physician Practices and off-site locations.
  • Participation in vendor user groups, education forums and other professional associations may require out-of-town travel.
