Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC.  The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities.  Vidant Health has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Wired healthcare organizations by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 1 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.


The Vice President, IS Ambulatory Applications serves as a key senior leader within the Information Services team. The VP, IS Ambulatory Applications develops and directs the operations of Vidant's IS non-acute care applications portfolio and software development initiatives and works closely with the IS senior team, clinical informatics and business executives in developing and executing IS strategies to support the mission and vision of Vidant Health. The VP, IS Ambulatory Applications will lead the development of ambulatory application strategies and standards and manage Vidant's application portfolio to enable clinical and business operating and financial performance. This position works with Information Services (IS) and business leadership to define and implement policies, procedures and application solutions that meet current and future clinical and business needs. As a business executive, the Vice President, IS Ambulatory Applications will ensure organizational awareness of ambulatory application system capabilities and advocate for business ownership so that ambulatory application systems are fully utilized. A key responsibility is the IS program for non-Vidant providers that offers Epic as a service to benefit the people of eastern North Carolina. This position demonstrates strong influence and communication skills to interact successfully and effectively within the IS department and with business unit leaders. The VP, IS Ambulatory Applications reports to the Chief Information Officer.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's/Bachelor's degree in business, healthcare administration, computer technology, information management or related field strongly desired.

Required Experience:

  • Hands-on and broad based management experience with five or more years in a senior IS operational management position. This experience will have been ideally gained from a complex health system, academic medical center, or large multi-specialty practice.
  • Experience with non-acute care systems such as ambulatory EHR and revenue cycle is required and prior experience with Home Care & Hospice systems, consumer portals, and Epic, while not required, would be advantageous.
  • A track record of successfully developing and implementing IS strategies at an enterprise level, including the selection, implementation, operation and maintenance of healthcare enterprise application systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate system evaluations and achieve consensus on application standards and solutions among a diverse group of user stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrate thorough understanding and knowledge base of healthcare delivery system operations and proven ability of how to address clinical and business improvements through the use of information technology.  Knowledge of current industry regulations and trends such as ICD-10, Meaningful Use, value based purchasing, Patient Centered Medical Home, PQRI, etc.
  • Polished professional that will be immediately recognizable as a leader at all levels of the organization, possessing outstanding communication, listening and interpersonal skills, and able to quickly establish credibility and rapport with a broad and diverse set of executives and clinicians.
  • Exhibit a strong business orientation and possess a thorough understanding of current healthcare technologies/systems and tools.
  • Highly motivated individual driven by accountability and execution with a strong analytical mindset and the ability to manage multiple complex projects at the same time while staying focused and executing on key business deliverables.
