Information Services at Vidant Health

Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC. The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 2 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.

Position Summary

Vidant Health is conducting a national search for a Vice President of Clinical Informatics to join its Information Services executive team.  The Vice President of Clinical Informatics reports directly to the Vidant Health Chief Information Officer, leads a team of clinical informaticists and education specialists, and partners with the Chief Medical Information Officer to serve the organization’s community of nurses, physicians and allied health professionals.  The Vice President of Clinical Informatics tracks industry trends and practices to stay on the forefront of the informatics field and is a thought leader responsible for developing and adopting leading evidence-based practices at Vidant that support Vidant’s mission and Magnet status.

The Vice President of Clinical Informatics develops the strategy and plan for clinical technology adoption, ensuring a strategic data driven approach to drive cultural change and optimize clinical adoption. The Vice President develops the organizational approach for ongoing optimization of technology solutions to support clinicians in their daily practice, as well as the methodology and tools for clinical technology implementations throughout the enterprise.  The Vice President of Clinical Informatics is responsible to develop and execute a comprehensive clinical applications training and multi-pronged support strategy in order to promote optimal system adoption.  This executive oversees Informatics day-to-day operations including staff management and development, budget, policies, and procedures. 

The Vice President of Clinical Informatics works closely with the CMIO in executing the Informatics vision, and also works closely with Information Services, Quality, Performance Improvement, and other key stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation and adoption of clinical technology in order to achieve organizational strategic objectives.  The Vice President is responsible for delivering a high functioning governance model that is inclusive of all stakeholders and is integrated with health system clinical, quality and service line operational and decision making structures.

The Vice President of Clinical Informatics provides oversight to the IS organizational change management program and leads the change management activities essential to Vidant’s on-going clinical-EHR transformation program.  The Vice President employs methods of change management to advance the organization by using tools, clinical processes, communication strategies and operational practices to significantly reshape Vidant Health and support strategic imperatives. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Masters’ degree in Nursing, doctorate in Nursing Practice or Informatics preferred.
  • Current RN licensure required.
  • Informatics certification required (ANCC Nursing Informatics or CPHIMS).
  • Minimum 7 years progressive informatics leadership experience with a proven track record of accomplishments in a large, complex multi-entity organization.
  • Experience engaging executives and other stakeholders to support business decisions
  • Experience in transformation and organizational change management and demonstrated understanding of change management theories and principles.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to present complex informatics solutions to clinical and executive audiences. Professional publication experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of business operations and clinical workflows.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage complex issues with executive stakeholders in a fast paced environment.
  • Innovative thinker who understands the practical application of technology and is able to plan for systems and processes today that will carry the organization into the future.
