About The East Carolina Heart Institute

The East Carolina Heart Institute is the first in North Carolina devoted exclusively to education, research, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The institute is associated with Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University. The primary facilities that make up the Heart Institute are located on the campuses of Vidant Medical Center and ECU’s Brody School of Medicine. The VAD coordinator will be responsible for the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with a ventricular assist device (VAD). Coordination includes but is not limited to patient education, staff education, community education, surgical coordination, clinic visits, and record keeping. He/she will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of all aspects of care for patients with a VAD in collaboration with the Advanced Heart Failure Team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing from an accredited college or university required.

  • Current RN licensure in the State of North Carolina required.

  • Minimum of four years experience in cardiovascular nursing, cardiac surgical nursing, critical care nursing, cardiac transplantation, and/or care of patients with ventricular assist devices.

  • Will consider allied health degrees such as Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Perfusionist with four years of experience in cardiovascular care and/or care of patients with ventricular assist devices.

Preferred Requirements

  • Prefer candidate with previous VAD Coordinator experience.

Other Information

  • Administrative and clinical components involved in job duties.

  • 24/7 accountability for program and participating patients.

  • Will include patient selection, family and patient education, post VAD implantation management, regional education, coordinating home requirements for VAD patients, data entry into the Intermacs Registry.
