  • Identifies name of Department and title when answering phone. Is assistive to all callers and promotes professional, interactive and pleasant experiences. 
  • Transfers calls promptly. Takes messages if requested by caller and delivers them in a legible, accurate and timely manner. 
  • Orders clerical supplies based on the need of the department, in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Distributes and places supplies in appropriate locations. 
  • Enters work orders/requests promptly via computer system. Completes other services orders as requested by staff (i.e. Biomed requests). Maintains logs/reports as needed. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of standard precautions, transmission of infection and routinely and consistently utilizemeasures to reduce the spread of bacteria. 
  • Advocates patient safety in all aspects of care within scope of practice. Demonstrates activities of patient privacy,
  • Confidentiality and patient identifiers in day-to-day work.

  • Attends staff meetings monthly with 75% yearly attendance anticipated. Collaborates with fellow Unit Coordinators to attend Patient Access staff meetings on a regular basis and shares all pertinent information with co-workers. 
  • Adheres to hospital policies and procedures. 
  • Demonstrates skills in priority setting, delegation and supervision. 
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations and communication skills. 
  • Participates in program, unit, departmental and hospital activities. Participates in community activities on behalf of the Emergency Department as requested. 
  • Follows the chain of command to resolve issues. 
  • Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own assigned work tasks. 
  • Recognizes the importance of clinical trials and promotes clinical trial research within the clinic as appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

  • The employee must be flexible and possess critical thinking/planning skills to meet the demands of the clinic needs.
  • Good organizational and leaderships skills are required to coordinate responsibilities the Emergency Department
  • High school graduate or equivalency is required.
  • Pleasant, professional reception mannerisms for telephone and in-person interactions are required.
  • Excellent customer service and attitude is required.Ability to communicate well (both written and oral) is required.Ability to work within a team setting is required.

Preferred Requirements

  • Completion of a Unit Coordinator program or previous Unit Coordinator experience is desirable.
  • Comprehension of medical terminology, HIPAA requirements, registration activities, health insurance plans is an asset.
  • Computer skills are a preferred asset.
