We opened in March 2002 as a joint venture between Vidant Health and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare. Our facility includes eighteen acute care medical-surgical beds, two labor and delivery/recovery/post-partum beds, a level II nursery bed, a designated caesarian section room, three operating rooms, outpatient and diagnostic services along with a 24-hour emergency department. Affiliated with The Outer Banks Hospital is The Outer Banks Medical Group (a Vidant Medical Group partner) which is comprised of eight physician practices.

Position Summary

The ultrasound technologists produces two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by the physician in diagnosing disease and studying malfunction of organs. The Tech modifies and delivers care that is specific to the age, growth and level of development of patients including adolescent, adult, and geriatric. The technologist must be familiar with all Radiologist Protocols for general ultrasound examinations.


  • Produces two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings of internal organs for use by the physician in diagnosing disease and studying malfunction of organs.

  • Explains process to the patient and instructs and assists the patient in assuming physical position for the exam.

  • Selects correct transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to the organ to be examined.

  • Keys test data and patient information into the computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.

  • Makes sure all images are received in PACS.

  • Reviews the patient’s chart for physician’s order, patient’s clinical history, including lab values.

  • Applies scanning techniques to the keyboard function.

  • Understands labeling of images.

Minimum Requirements


Two year degree required. Diagnostic technologists RT (R), preferred but not required. The Team Member must have an ARDMS registration with current certification (with OB/GYN specialty, preferred for OBGYN clinic ONLY) or registry obtained within the first six months of employment. A minimum of two (2) years AMA accredited program in radiologic technology or ultrasound. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider status is required upon hire. 


Requires at least three months of ultrasound work experience. May be based on experience obtained through completion of ultrasound program.

Other Information

This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position.

This position works Monday through Friday.

This position is eligible for full-time benefits.
