Vidant Health offers comprehensive Information Technology (IT) services and infrastructure to support and enable all aspects of organizational operations. Our IT division consists of a state-of-the-art data center located in Greenville, NC.  The data center services all information technology needs of Vidant Health facilities.  Vidant Health has been recognized as one of the 100 Most Wired healthcare organizations by Hospitals and Health Networks magazine. All Vidant Health owned or leased hospitals are on a common IT platform, including our electronic health record (EHR) that uses Epic's suite of applications. Vidant Health has achieved Meaningful Use Stage 1 recognition and is also approaching Stage 7 for HIMSS Analytics’ Electronic Medical Records Adoption Model (EMRAM) recognition.


  • Analyze, design, build, test, and implement technology solutions that meet the specifications of a project or service request. Lead the build activities for initiatives ensuring architectural and operational requirements are met. Effectively utilizes standard enterprise tools to develop or implement technical solutions Writes test cases and report results. Executes implementation of technical solutions. Verifies implementation success. Provides support until implementation stable, performing to expectations and turned over to 1st or 2nd level support team. Communicates status of work in progress to project team, requester or supervisor.
  • Identifies, escalates, and resolves issues that impact infrastructure and application performance. Resolves hardware, operational, infrastructure and application incidents. Identifies problems following problem management expectations and performs problem resolution. Participates in building and maintaining disaster recovery plans. Participates in disaster recovery exercises. Resolve most issues independently or escalates as needed to senior engineers. Pulls appropriate teams together to solve technical challenges. Monitors and troubleshoot systems capacity and performance issues. Provides preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and quickly resolves routine problems to ensure infrastructure and application stability. Participates in regression and integration testing. Follows continual improvement best practices by identifying and diagnosing improvement opportunities. Suggests improvements to senior engineers, solution architects and supervisors.
  • Adheres to standards and best practices, processes, and deliverables in accordance with standards. Collaborates withteam to promote re-use and develop consistent technical build, implementation and support processes. Provides input to senior engineers and solution architects for standards, best practices, and process improvements. Participates in defining operational readiness requirements. Follows testing best practices and standards. Adheres to SLA expectations. Mentors staff as needed on standards and best practices.
  • Leads the detailed design and lifecycle management of platforms, applications and infrastructure services. Assists in platform, application, service and life cycle management planning, scheduling and implementation. Writes technical specifications for respective applications or infrastructure platforms. Participates in creating prototypes or proofs of concepts for new infrastructure technology. Implements applications or infrastructure components according to requirements, specifications and standards. Stays current with respective technology capabilities. Collaborates with vendor partners and contractors. 
  • Works with Project Managers to resolve requirements gaps uncovered in design or within specifications or requirements. Prepares and shares technical documentation current for platform, service or infrastructure technical components.
  • Adheres to change and incident management standards and expectations. Must effectively communicate, present, influence and utilize reasoning skills to earn support of business partners, colleagues, and IS leadership team. 
  • Provides input to support technology planning. Works with IT management and architecture to ensure systems are in line with overall IT policies and standards. Stays current with vendor capabilities and provides input into software/system implementation strategies and plans.

Minimum Requirements

  • AA/AS or equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years total work experience
  • Has knowledge of state-of-the art engineering technical approaches in design, build, testing, debugging problems as required by domain.
  • Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise.
  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education
