The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center offers 197 beds and bassinets and an array of specialized services unequaled in eastern North Carolina. Responsibilities

Maintains the integrity, safety and efficiency of the sterile field throughout surgical procedures. Prepares and arranges instruments and supplies. Assists the surgeon and assistants throughout the operation by providing sterile instruments and supplies. Attends educational programs and staff orientation which promote personal and professional development. 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School degree plus less than 1 year of formal training or comparable experience.
  • Graduation from an approved Surgical Technician or LPN program OR completion of Nurse Extern Program training in the Operating Room or comparable on-the-job experience.
  • Substitutions that may be allowed for education and/or experience (year for year).: Previous employment as a Surgical Technologist for three years may substitute for the required formal education.

Preferred Requirements

  • Prefer 2 yrs of previous experience as Surg Tech.
  • Also prefer BLS, Certification for the Surgical Technologist.
