Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.

Responsibilities

 The growth of the transportation system has created daily challenges and complexities that require 24 hour direct supervision of transport processes and staff to ensure the needs of the patient, department, hospital, and region are met.

 The supervisor will be accountable for the operations of the helicopters, mobile intensive care units in Greenville and regional bases, ALS and BLS services during his/her assigned shift. This will include human resource management, collaboration with physicians, internal departments and regional hospitals, and timely coordination and appropriateness of patient transports.

  •  Functions as the shift representative to the department leadership group.
  • Assists Manager to ensure adequate staffing for the department by taking responsibility for calling staff when coverage is needed. Functions as the shift representative to the department leadership group. Functions as a resource for coordination/triage of transports for communications specialists. Leads shift change reports at the Greenville base.
  • Ensures/delegates shift change duties are completed: vehicle and equipment checks, cleaning of office/vehicles, narcotic counts, refrigerator checks and any outstanding duties from previous shift. Delegates daily duties: ordering of stock, medication, linen, oxygen, and equipment maintenance errands to BioMed.
  • Communicates with regional EastCare sites on a daily basis to evaluate plan/status for shift utilization.
  • Holds staff accountable for functioning at the level of their job descriptions and initiates immediate disciplinary action as needed with appropriate follow up by the Manager.
  • Assist Manager by evaluating staff. Attends daily hospital bed briefing meetings. Commends, counsels, and provides guidance to shift staff Collaborates with cardiac connection RN to determine regional transfer needs for the shift.  Collaborates with Neonatal Discharge Planners to identify potential return transports and coordinates appropriate resource utilization. Collaborates with care coordinators for hospital discharges to coordinate appropriate resources as needed to enhance in-house capacity utilization. Collaborates with Transportation Department for outstanding maintenance issues and rotates ambulances to ensure service coverage is maintained during maintenance times.
  • Works effectively with others in a team environment. Shows evidence of continued professional growth. Fulfills annual education requirements for supervisors. Maintains clinical competence to function on MICU/aircraft.
  • Demonstrates service excellence behaviors. Demonstrates a working knowledge of EMS rules/regulations and hospital policies utilizing departmental leadership as a resource when need arises. Demonstrates active participation in departmental leadership, safety, CQI, and staff meetings. Provides a role model for staff and serves as a mentor for staff, preceptors, and preceptees.

Minimum Requirements

  •  High School plus 2 years or more of formal training or education - Associate degree in Nursing.
  • Two additional years of experience as a paramedic may be substituted for 1 year of required education.
  • NC RN license or NC Paramedic Certification required.
  • 2 to 3 years related experience required. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • ACLS, BLS, PALS. NRP and TNCC or PHTLS/ITLS must be obtained before completion of orientations. EMT must be obtained after 1 year off of orientation for RN. One specialty certification for example, CFRN or FP-C must be obtained within 2 years of hire.
  • 3 years from an ICU/ER area or high call volume area for Paramedics
