Responsibilities  

  • Systematically assesses patient's status.
  • Assesses function and status of all body systems.
  • Prioritizes data collection as determined by immediate condition of patient.
  • Uses interviews with patients and significant other(s), physical examination, review of records and reports.
  • Formulates nursing diagnosis (concise statement identifying patient's potential problems) based on data and assessment of identified needs.
  • Recognizes changes in patient's status promptly and communicates with physician as soon as they are detected.
  • Assesses ability of patient and/or caregivers to develop a plan of care.
  • Identifies referral needs on checkout and initiates referrals.
  • Uses nursing process to plan individualized nursing care.
  • Shows skill in assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
  • Plans, supervises, delegates, provides, and evaluates nursing care for a group of patients.
  • Develops and implements a patient plan of care reflecting use of the nursing process and individual patient needs.
  • Updates plan of care to reflect current status and to address care management needs.
  •  Delivers patient care and performs treatment and procedures according to current standards of care.
  • Performs according to policies and procedures.
  • Patient plan of care reflects standards of practice.
  • Demonstrates departmental competencies.
  • Explains rationale for intervention.
  • Evaluates interventions and revises plan of care as necessary.
  • Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, point of care testing and completes documentation.

  • Provides patient teaching.
  • Identifies educational needs of patient and family members and involves them in the self management activities and education.

  • Monitors patient's response to interventions and plans care appropriately.
  • Delegates tasks to other health care providers while considering qualifications of staff, needs of the patient, safety and infection control issues, and the plan of care.

  • Responds appropriately to patient's requests.

  • Timely processing of patient information to support departments (Lab, Radiology, and Data Processing).

Minimum Requirements

  • Current license as a RN in the state of North Carolina.
  • Demonstrates competencies in nursing practice.
  • Basic computer skills with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
