Vidant Medical Center is a fully accredited, 900+ bed regional referral facility encompassing a Level-1 Trauma Center and extensive inpatient and outpatient services including intensive and intermediate care, pediatrics, bariatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, pain management and psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • The employee will occupy a .6 FTE and will be required to work 48 hours per pay period between Friday 7pm and Monday 7am. For an employee to work less than 24 hours in any weekend, manager approval will be required.
  • The .6 Weekend employee will receive part-time benefits and will be paid for worked plus benefit hours.
  • Premium pay for this option is based upon a flat rate to be adjusted as necessitated by market analysis. The flat rate for nights will be higher than the flat rate for days. Each employee will have an individualized alternate rate for Education and other alternate hours.
  • The .6 Weekend employee will be scheduled for additional hours when workload demands and may include hours in excess of 48. Additional hours worked (weekend or other) will be paid at the alternate pay rate established for the individual.
  • In the event of a reduction in activity, the .6 Weekend employee will be treated as any other employee and placed on call or given time off based on the departments rotational process.
  • The .6 Weekend employee will receive call paywhen placed on call ($ 12.50/shift) but will NOT receive Call Back premium pay for scheduled WEO hours. See the VMC Call Policy in the Personnel manual.
  • Benefit time may be granted at a maximum rate of 8 days per year. (The year will begin on the date that the individual begins the option position. Managers will track benefit days on a yearly basis based on that start date). A WEO employee calling in on a scheduled shift will be rescheduled if needed for patient care in the two weeks following the call-in per Policy K1-4. Vacation Buy-back is paid at the alternate rate.
  • Weekend employee who exceeds the maximum of 8 days off per year (including sick, vacation, holiday, and days without pay) will cease to be a .6 Weekend employee and convert to a regular position as available regardless of hours worked above the required hours of the WEO position.
  • The .6 Weekend employee must work the departmental holiday requirement of a .6 FTE which will minimally include one major holiday and one minor holiday.
  • If a holiday that is eligible for premium holiday pay falls on the weekend, the .6 Weekend employee will NOT receive holiday premium and will receive the usual .5 Weekend premium pay. Alternate hours worked and entered as position #3 will be eligible for weekend, holiday, and call back premiums.
  • The .6 FTE-Weekend employee is eligible for departmental relocation as per departmental guidelines.
  • Employment requisitions and Personnel Action Forms will reflect the position is .6 FTE Weekend with part- time benefits.
  • Each employee shall sign and receive a copy of the .6 Weekend Option policy. The signed copy shall be placed in the employee's personnel file.
  • The .6 Weekend employee is eligible for Clinical Ladder participation under the same policy and procedure as other applicants. 

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit requirements.
  • Participants must have minimally 1 year of experience in the department or in a similar clinical setting.
  • Participants must have completed the initial probationary or trial period and must be minimally at the Fulfills Expectations performance level.
  • Absentee rate must be below the level requiring intervention (per Absenteeism policy).
  • Organizational seniority plus performance will be weighed by the manager to determine participation.
  • To avoid loss of benefit time, if an employee with a large vacation bank is selected into a WEO position, the manager should work with the Payroll Department Administrator to facilitate a one time vacation buyout as they move into the position. This is a one-time offer and must be completed at the time of moving into the WEO position.
