About James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital

The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center offers 197 beds and bassinets and an array of specialized services unequaled in eastern North Carolina. Our patient-and-family-centered care philosophy is more than a mantra; it's the guiding force of our efforts and has been for nearly 30 years. It is expressed in tangible ways throughout our recent 78,000-square-foot expansion.

Primary Population

Provides obstetrical services for women and serves as the referral center for High-risk pregnancies for 29 counties in Eastern North Carolina.  The region’s only level III neonatal intensive care unit is located in the adjacent Children’s Hospital.  Our Labor and Delivery unit at Vidant Medical Center is committed to family centered care and is a Baby Friendly Hospital.  We offer educational and training programs to support the health of women throughout their lifetime.

Lay out:  23 bed unit, which is divided into two areas, Side A and Side B.

Side A: (low risk) has 7 LDRP rooms in which we care for families throughout the birthing process, and for women and babies throughout the postpartum/newborn stage until hospital discharge.

Side B: (high risk) has a total of 16 beds, 4 are LDRP rooms, 4 delivery/c-section suites, and a new 2-bed recovery suite.

*3500 deliveries a year

RN ratio is 1:2 (average)

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct, quality patient care, utilizing a basic clinical skill level and knowledge base. 
  • To provide proficient, age specific, professional nursing skills in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care for assigned patients in accordance with legal, hospital practice and departmental policies and procedures, established standards of nursing care and practice, and as defined by the state of  North Carolina.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement Activities. 
  • Attends educational programs and staff orientation which promotes personal and professional development.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state

Preferred Requirements

  • BSN Preferred.
  • Experience with High Risk L&D Required.

  • Full Time positions.
  • Rotating Shifts or Straight Nights
