Position Summary

  • The System Service Line Administrator (SSLA) for Behavioral Health (BH) is accountable for the delivery of high quality BH services throughout Vidant Health, assuring the integration of patient care activities through 24-hour accountability of all behavioral health services. Specific responsibilities will be delegated to this position by the VH Chief of Clinical Network Development with close alignment to the Sr. Vice President of Operations for Vidant Medical Group. As the BH service line evolves, it is anticipated new assignments and areas of responsibility will change as well.

  • As a member of the Behavioral Health Executive Committee (BHEC), the SSLA will provide overall coordination and oversight of behavioral health services offered by Vidant Health.  Working in conjunction with physician leaders, the SSLA will lead a coordinated and integrated approach to behavioral health that results in alignment throughout the VH continuum of care.

  • To successfully carry out the responsibilities of the position, the SSLA must communicate effectively at all levels and must establish, collaborative relationships with local Medical staff, Executive staff, Hospital Presidents, Administrators/program directors and clinical  leadership. Overall accountability for the performance (quality, safety, outcomes, financial, etc.) of behavioral health services is retained by BHEC and shared by the SSLA for Behavioral Health Services. Flexibility; the ability to take direction; function as a member of a team; ability to bring forth ideas and projects; and communicate successes and barriers will all be key attributes of the SSLA. The SSLA serves as a resource to each BH entity and program.  With the establishment of goals and initiatives approved by the BHEC, the SSLA and the Executive Director (physician leader) have the responsibility of ensuring clinical standardization across the service line. Utilizing participative management skills, the SSLA maintains responsibility for the coordination of human and material resources in a manner which is consistent with the VH Behavioral Health Service Line's organizational mission, vision, goals, and philosophy.

Minimum Requirements

  • Master's Degree is required.  (MBA, MHA or MSN is preferred)

  • The incumbent must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in managerial or administrative roles. At least three years of Behavioral Health standards and regulatory requirements experience as well as prefer managerial/administrative experience in an academic medical center.

  • The incumbent's knowledge base will include, but not be limited to, the areas of: Hospital Policy and Procedure; the Hospital Personnel Manual and Risk Management Issues.
