The LIS Department is responsible for the Sunquest and PowerPath Laboratory computer systems at Vidant Health which includes support for eight hospital laboratories. The Vidant Health laboratory computer system is a Smart Select, DI, and RALS, site. The LIS Department takes a team oriented approach to on-going projects. The LIS Department is supported by a board certified Informatics Pathologist.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, design, development, testing and implementation of LIS applications which are moderately complex using vendor supplied tools and necessary coding language/system maintenance tools.

  •  Perform systems software installation and maintenance tasks.

  •  Provide general support and problem solving for laboratory applications/systems. Monitor quality management and improvement.

  • Educate/train users in the functions and capabilities of hardware and software.

  •  Maintain knowledge of development tools, applications in LIS and departmental processes and procedures.

  •  Monitor trends and technological changes in the computer industry in order to make recommendations for the acquisition of computer hardware and software.

  •  Provide advanced support for the departments' personal computers and has the ability to provide support as needed for the LIS functionality.

  • Acquire a working knowledge of lab system database global to assist in database maintenance, data extraction, and other system troubleshooting and problem resolution.

  •  Acquire a working knowledge of all LIS hardware to enable troubleshooting and problem resolution.

  •  Perform day to day operations of LIS system.

  •  Perform other duties as assigned.

 Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science required.

  • ASCP certification preferred with BSMT or BSCLS.

  • Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technician to include ASCP certification in conjunction with a computer science related degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent may substitute for the BS degree.

  • A minimum of four years lab experience required (two years experience of clinical lab bench work and two years experience with Lab Information Systems).

  • Sunquest laboratory computer system experience preferred.

Other Information

  • Full-time position 

  • Hours: 0800-1630 Monday – Friday, may be adjusted to 0730-1600 after probation period completed.  POC call rotation coverage required for second/third shifts weekday. 24/7 weekend and hospital holiday POC call rotation required.
