About Vidant Bertie Hospital

Vidant Bertie Hospital is a six-bed critical access state-of-the-art facility located in Windsor, North Carolina that provides surgical, emergency and diagnostic services, specialty clinics and primary care clinics. Our primary care physician practice operates the Vidant Family Medicine - Windsor and we have a telemedicine link with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The Emergency Medicine Physicians see approximately 30 patients per day, as well a cover the 6 inpatient beds during nights and weekends. Our medical staff includes some of the finest primary care, internal medicine physicians and surgeons in the region.


Position Summary

Under the clinical supervision of the Medical Director of Respiratory Care and the overall supervision of the Manager of Respiratory Care, the Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) provides safe, expedient, cost-effective respiratory care services. As a member of a team of health care professionals, an RCP evaluates, treats and manages patients of all ages with respiratory illnesses and other cardiopulmonary disorders in a wide variety of clinical settings. Respiratory Care Practitioners behave in a manner consistent with the standards and ethics of all health care professionals. In addition to performing respiratory care procedures, RCP's are involved in clinical decision-making (such as patient assessment, treatment selection and reassessment of treatment efficacy), goal directed respiratory care planning and patient education. RCP's are required to document in the patient medical record factual, accurate, complete, timely, legible and legal information about the care they provide to each patient. Each RCP is responsible for billing the patient correctly for the services provided.

Minimum Requirements

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, if not current at time of hire, must complete within first 12 months of employment and maintained
  • Associate Degree or higher in an approved COARC program for Respiratory Care
  • Active licensure with the North Carolina Respiratory Care Board upon hire and maintained yearly
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registry Eligible with RRT credential obtained within 6 months of graduation
  • 0 to 3 years post graduate experience

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience preferred
  • Active status with NBRC recommended
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification preferred - expected to acquire within 12 months of employment
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification preferrred - expected to acquire within 12 months of employment
  • S.T.A.B.L.E. Certification preferred - expected to acquire within 12 months of employment

Other Information

  • Full-time position with benefits
  • 2 12-hour shifts and 1 8-hour shift (32 hours/week and up to 36 hours as needed)
  • Will be required to float to Vidant Chowan Hospital (Edenton) weekly
  • Weekend and holiday rotation
  • Will be required to take call a minimum of 12 hours/week
