About the Outer Banks Hospital

The Outer Banks Hospital, located in Nags Head, North Carolina, is a full service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital opened in March 2002 and is one of the newest hospitals in eastern North Carolina. The hospital's 21 private rooms are designed to meet the needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 250,000 in the summer season. The labor and delivery area consists of two labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum rooms, a five-bed nursery, a dedicated caesarean-section operating room and a triage room.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates responsibility for Patient Safety as measured by accuracy of patient identification, specimen labeling and specimen collection/preservation; follow up on PSN events, 100% Red Rule compliance, SBAR handoff technique.  
  • Demonstrates ability to perform Accurate and Reliable Patient Care utilizing Respiratory equipment and technique according to established departmental procedures and protocols as measured by CAP survey accuracy, documented errors, competency documentation, chart audit, feedback on patient care issues requiring investigation at department level.
  • Demonstrates participation in maintaining Technical Operations as measured by documented daily and periodic equipment maintenance, ongoing quality measures, active review/update of departmental policies and procedures, involvement in departmental projects/initiatives. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of LIS and HIS Computer Skills as measured by use of LIS (Sunquest) functions/competencies, HIS (Healthspan) navigation/competencies, accuracy to Heathspan charge capture, accuracy and consistency of patient Electronic Medical Record charting documentation review.
  • Maintains Accurate Records and Documentation as measured by equipment QA/troubleshooting and maintenance documentation, Philips tracemaster EKG records, istat documentation, patient EMR charting documentation review.
  • Demonstrates Critical Thinking Skills and ability to actively troubleshoot and problem solve patient care scenarios as measured by interactions with other OBH department staff/MD’s, Dare EMS, vendor hotline support.
  • Demonstrates Engagement and Professionalism in the Education/Training of students, new/current employees and patients as measured by student/instructor interaction, completeness of competency documentation, performance of student/new employee, patient EMR charting documentation review.
  • Demonstrates commitment to Professional Competency as measured by minimum 20 CEU/yr, annual review of P&P, participation in CEU activities, timely review of P&P updates, pursuing certifications.
  • Demonstrates Engagement in Departmental and Organizational Operations as measured by active participation in 75% departmental staff meetings, participation in OBH employee forums, participation in patient rounds, participation in task forces, work groups, collaborative self-scheduling, committees, and community events.
  • Demonstrates ability to serve in a Leadership capacity as measured by active, documented review and knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, collaboration/consultation with team members when P&P questions arise, peer interactions, ability of respond appropriately to questions in the absence of Director. Requests consultation as necessary.
  • Demonstrates active participation in the Development of self, team, department and organization as measured by timely follow through on projects/tasks, involvement in procedure development, Quality initiatives, other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates ability to Manage Time in a productive manner as measured by testing turn around times, project completion, CEU completion, follow through on assignments.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a graduate from an approved RRT or CRT respiratory therapy program.  Must have a current North Carolina RCP license to practice. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider status is required upon hire. Must have AHA ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.  AHA PALS and AAP/AHA NRP are encouraged.

Preferred Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a therapist in a hospital respiratory therapy department is preferred.

Other Information

  • This is a PRN (as needed basis) position within our Respiratory Department.
  • There are no gauranteed hours for this position. Schedule will be based on the needs of the department.
  • This position is not benefit eligible.
