About The East Carolina Heart Institute
The East Carolina Heart Institute is the first in North Carolina devoted exclusively to education, research, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The institute is associated with Vidant Medical Center and East Carolina University. The primary facilities that make up the Heart Institute are located on the campuses of Vidant Medical Center and ECU’s Brody School of Medicine. We use the most advanced equipment and techniques to manage both familiar and rare cardiovascular problems. Our integration of basic science and clinical research, along with the clinical practice of medicine and surgery, ensures that patients receive the latest, most promising treatment options based on thorough review of their individual needs.
About the Cardiovascular ICU
The CVICU is a 24-bed unit, averaging 12-14 ICU patients with a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio and 8 intermediate patients with a 4:1 ratio, inside our state-of-the-art East Carolina Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center. The unit operates in a "pod setting" with four beds in each pod.
Primary patient populations include immediate post-op recovery of coronary artery bypass grafts, valve repair/replacements, Transcatheter AVR, robotic surgery and minimally invasive surgery, aneurysm and endovascular grafts.

I am a travel nurse by trade and moved from Wisconsin to work up and down the East Coast. I decided to continue my nursing career at Greenville NC because it still had the small town feel where everyone is friendly and gives you a sense of community, while providing enough activities to do. You can drive an hour in either direction and be at the beach or the capital of Raleigh. I chose ECHI because of all the opportunities for advancement with the ECU school of nursing and Brody school of medicine affiliated with VMC. I wanted to be a part of a not for profit hospital that gives back to the community. I have been a CVOR RN, an ICU RN, a SLAT RN, and now am the ANM for the CVICU. We have the latest technology and have many opportunities for growth both within and out of the healthcare system. I truly love where I am and what I do.
- Delivers direct, quality patient care, utilizing a basic clinical skill level and knowledge base.
- Develops, implements and evaluates/revises a plan of care.
- Attends educational programs and staff orientation which promotes personal and professional development.
- Participates in Patient and Family Centered Care.
- NC RN license or active compact license (must obtain temporary NC license within 30 days).
- At least 1 year of RN experience (new graduates must apply to the residency program).
- CVICU/CTICU experience.
- Experience with hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, IABP.
- CCRN certification
- BSN preferred
- Full -time NIGHT positions available.
