The James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital at Vidant Medical Center offers 197 beds and bassinets and an array of specialized services unequaled in eastern North Carolina. Our patient-and-family-centered care philosophy is more than a mantra; it's the guiding force of our efforts and has been for nearly 30 years. It is expressed in tangible ways throughout our recent 78,000-square-foot expansion.

Primary Population

  • Acute Pediatric Issues (Trauma, Asthma, Diabetes, Respiratory Distress, Seizures, Encephalitis, Septic Shock, Hematology/Oncology, and elective Cardiac Surgeries, Mechanical Ventilation, Hemodynamic Monitoring, CRRT)

  • 12 bed pediatric critical care unit

Responsibilities 

  • Delivery of optimal patient care for the critically ill hospitalized child.
  • Nurses undergo an extensive orientation tailored to their specific needs.   During this time, they attend various educational activities which provide a solid foundation for intensive care nursing
  • Attends educational programs which promotes continuous personal and professional development.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.

  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Other Information

  • Full Time positions - work 3 12’s, 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week period., rotates days and nights
  • Part Time positions –work 2 12’s and 3 weekend shifts in a 6-week period, rotates days and nights
