  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Participates in staff meetings as determined by Nurse Manager. Attends 75% of scheduled unit meetings and signs minutes for all unattended meetings. Supports the Health System's mission, policies, and procedures through attendance and participation at committee meetings, if applicable. Assigns self and others to productive activities consistent with patient workload and personnel qualifications, while retaining accountability for delegated nursing care, and ensures continuous availability for direct participation in nursing care. Reports to work on time and is at work as scheduled, as observed by Nurse Manager (follows Health System policy and procedure for notification of unplanned absence).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Health System policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of commonly used medications: action, dose, and side effects. Observes five rights for administering medications: right patient, right drug, right dose, right method, right time. Demonstrates proper procedures in all methods of medication administration, including the utilization of the IntelliDOT System. Administers blood and blood products following Health System policies and procedures, and operates blood warmer equipment per policy and procedure. Initiates and maintains IV access according to Health System policy and procedure, and operates IV pumps per policy and procedure. Demonstrates knowledge of Health System policy and procedure for Pyxis stations. Demonstrates knowledge of Health System policy and procedure for the IntelliDOT System.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a realistic problem list (plan of care) for each patient, in collaboration with each patient/family/significant other, in order to address all identified needs. Plan of care will include nursing diagnosis statement, interventions, 24-hour outcomes, and discharge outcomes for each identified problem. This also includes updating plans of care for those patients in restraints, whether medical or behavioral. Develops patient/family/significant other teaching and discharge plan as per unit standard. Provides patient teaching on a continuous basis and documents using the integrated teaching tool.
  • Identifies and documents patient/family/significant other teaching needs upon admission. Verifies and documents Informed Consent per policy and procedure (surgical, conscious sedation, blood administration). Identifies discharge planning needs of patient/family/significant other on admission. Identifies and provides appropriate education and support to patients and family experiencing the dying process.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current registration in the state or eligibility to do so.
  • BLS current certification. 

Other Information  

  • Required to work 36 hours per six weeks.
  • Required to work one off shift and two weekend shifts per six week schedule.
