Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC. Ahoskie offers a moderate cost of living, a strong sense of community, and a temperate climate and location to support a variety of year round outdoor activities, such as boating, kayaking, hunting, fishing, hiking, and golf.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient/client.
  • Assess the appropriateness of care by acquiring and evaluating clinical data and assessing the overall status of the patient based on the age of the patient.
  • Assess patient’s current medical status to evaluate changes that require immediate medical intervention. Knows whom to call and what information to give and  Initiates proper Code Blue when indicated.
  • Understands and abide by departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ensures patient identification and Assist technologists and physicians as needed. 
  • Set up and clean room.
  • Provides basic patient care when moving patients to and from stretchers, beds, wheel chairs and radiology tables.
  • Competent usage of PACS, knowledge of print capabilities.
  • Maintains a professional appearance by adhering to the departmental dress code and maintaining a stocked, clean work environment.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing between each patient.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards.
  • As directed by the supervisor may have additional responsibility as preceptor for new employees.
  • Participates in In-service Education and staff meetings as required.  Fulfills mandatory requirements annually.
  • Miscellaneous duties; greets employees / visitors, gives directions, maintain and clean equipment, keep hallways clear of equipment.
  • Participates in Staff Action Team of choosing 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous hospital, medical experience preferred.
  •  Current BLS, if not current at time of hire, must complete within first 6 months of employment and maintain.

Other Information

  • This position is every other weekend, mostly nights, 8-12 hour shifts.
  • Pay range is $8.8-$14.08 per hour.  Actual rate depends on experience.
