About the Outer Banks Hospital

The Outer Banks Hospital, located in Nags Head, North Carolina, is a full service critical access hospital offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The hospital opened in March 2002 and is one of the newest hospitals in eastern North Carolina. The hospital's 21 private rooms are designed to meet the needs of our coastal community, whose year-round population of approximately 35,000 swells to about 250,000 in the summer season. The labor and delivery area consists of two labor/delivery/recovery/postpartum rooms, a five-bed nursery, a dedicated caesarean-section operating room and a triage room.

Responsibilities

  • Operates X-Ray Equipment to make radiographs of designated body parts. Responsibilities include knowledge of all x-ray equipment, proper patient positioning, exposures, film developing for interpretations, implementation of patient charges, and assists physicians as required. Performs laboratory testing, monitors test results, assures test quality and validity; communicates results in a timely manner. Will be available for emergency on-call procedures as required. Recognizes the need for control/assessment of pain for patients and helps to prevent or reduce patient pain levels when possible.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for Patient Safety as measured by accuracy of patient identification, specimen labeling and specimen collection/preservation; follows proper patient positioning and instruction technique to ensure high image quality for interpretation.
  • Adheres to safe work practices and infection control policies and procedures. Protects self and others from undue radiation exposure. Follows ALARA imaging guidelines.
  • Demonstrates participation in maintaining Technical Operations as measured by documented equipment preventative maintenance/troubleshooting, parallel kit/reagent testing, active review of departmental policies, procedures and protocols; image CD preparation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Equipment Operation, laboratory testing, imaging protocols. Maintains continuing education to keep current with advances in technology and procedures, as they are developed to ensure compliance with licensing/credentialing agencies.
  • Maintains Accurate Records and Documentation as measured by instrument QA/troubleshooting documentation, maintenance documentation, patient reports, quality control records, temperature records. Critical results or unusual results are called to appropriate personnel and documented.
  • Practices established laboratory Quality Control procedures. Demonstrates proper QC evaluation skills. Reports all QC failures to supervisor and seeks further instruction. Documents all corrective action based on CAP requirements.
  • Maintains Inventory of radiology and laboratory supplies and reagents. Keeps items necessary for performance of job well stocked. Recognizing when supplies need to be ordered and does so in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates commitment to Professional Competency through annual review of P&P, participation in CEU activities, mandatory competency requirements.
  • Demonstrates Critical Thinking Skills and ability to actively troubleshoot and problem solve patient care scenarios as measured by daily interactions with other OBH department staff/MD’s, Physicians offices, reference facilities, etc.
  • Responsible for delivering Accurate and Timely patient results/images based on age specific protocols. Documentation of work performed is neat and legible.
  • Demonstrates active collaboration. Promotes and practices positive patient/co-worker interactions. Works collaboratively with co-workers and other personnel.
  • Demonstrates open communication to develop positive relationships.
  • Manages and appropriately disposes of hazardous/biohazardous materials safely and per protocol.
  • Performs clinical support services within scope of practice and upon completion of proper training and competency evaluation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent. Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Radiologic Technology and possess a current ARRT registry. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider status is required upon hire.
  • Requires at least three months of Radiology work experience, but 1 year of experience is preferred. Clinical support services experience preferred.

Other Information

  • This is a PRN position, hours will vary depending on the needs of the Urgent Care Center.  There is no guarantee of hours.
  • This position is not benefit eligible.
