Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital is a 114-bed, not-for-profit hospital located in Ahoskie, NC. The 15-bed ER serves approximately 21,000 patients per year from the local community and surrounding towns. This modern facility provides a wide range of health services to its 39,000 residents in the four-county area.

Ahoskie, NC is ideally located an hour from the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area and two hours from Raleigh, Richmond, Williamsburg, and the beautiful Outer Banks of NC. Ahoskie offers a moderate cost of living, a strong sense of community, and a temperate climate and location to support a variety of year round outdoor activities, such as boating, kayaking, hunting, fishing, hiking, and golf.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient/client.
  • Assess the appropriateness of care by acquiring and evaluating clinical data and assessing the overall status of the patient based on the age of the patient.
  • Documents daily dose delivered and accurately calculates accumulated dose and elapsed treatment days. Documentation in the Mosiaq chart as needed.
  • Educates and informs patients and their families in aspects of their radiation therapy treatments and refers them to Radiation Oncologist when necessary.
  • Schedules and maintains daily therapy treatment appointments.
  • Assess patient’s current medical status to evaluate changes that require immediate medical intervention. Knows whom to call and what information to give and?? Initiates proper Code Blue when indicated.
  • Demonstrates proper radiation safety for patient, self and others within treatment parameters.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Demonstrates safe operation of all linear accelerators and simulator equipment in compliance with department policy, safety, disinfection, infection control and quality control standards.?? Performs accelerator warm-up procedures and calibration daily and reports problems to Medical Physicist.
  • Accurately and consistently sets up patient for radiation treatment according to the physician instructions and follows all treatment related technical instructions regarding the administration of the radiation treatment in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge to perform CT simulation to be used in the treatment process.
  • Maintains a professional appearance by adhering to the departmental dress code and maintaining a stocked, clean work environment.
  • Uses universal precautions appropriately and performs proper handwashing between each patient.
  • Uses department “scripts” to effectively communicate with other departments, patients, families, coworkers and students in person or over the phone.
  • As directed by the supervisor may have additional responsibility as charge technologist and/or preceptor for students and/or new employees.
  • Demonstrates effective computer skills for electronic charting, billing and documentation.
  • Participates in In-service Education, and obtains 24 education contact hours per biennium.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current R.T. RT. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T.) or
  • Registry Eligible with RT(R) credential obtained within 12 months from hire date or registry eligibility status.
  • Current BLS, if not current at time of hire, must complete within first 6 months of employment and maintain.
