Position Summary

The Radiation Therapist is responsible for the safe delivery of radiation therapy in accordance to the physician's written prescription and treatment plan.  Treatment delivery includes patient identification using the Vidant two patient identifiers prior to every treatment.  The Radiation Therapist will recognize deviations from the prescribed treatment and will report all deviations emergently to the Physicist, Radiation Oncologist and Practice Manager. The Radiation Therapist will perform localized radiographs related to the patient's treatment under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist.  The Radiation Therapist will assist in all treatment related procedures, including the construction of electron blocks, simulation Procedures, charge capture, chart reviews and ordering of supplies.  Daily and weekly QA activities will be performed and documented by the Radiation Therapist for assigned equipment.  The Radiation Therapist will participate in activities and programs to identify, implement, measure and assess quality initiatives related to Radiation Oncology.  The Radiation Therapist is expected to provide quality patient care, ongoing patient education and strive to meet all patient needs.  It is recognized that the Radiation Oncology clinic actively participates in clinical trials research and the Radiation Therapist will support the research activities.  The Radiation Therapist is directly accountable to the Practice Manager - Oncology for all facets of patient care delivered within the Radiation Oncology Clinic.  He/She will provide age/population appropriate patient care within the unit scope of practice for Radiation Oncology.

Minimum Requirements

  • Employee must have successfully completed a formal radiation therapy technology program
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (T) is required.
  • BLS certification is required; if the employee does not hold an active BLS certification it is required at time of hire.
  • Knowledge of oncology clinical trials and related experience are an asset. 
  • The employee must be flexible and possess critical thinking/planning skills to meet the demands/needs of the clinic.
  • Good organizational and leaderships skills are required to coordinate the clinic and collaborate with the members of the Radiation Oncology Clinic.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
