Vidant Duplin Hospital is an 81-bed facility located in Kenansville, North Carolina and has 20 practicing physicians on its active medical staff. Vidant Duplin serves Duplin County and surrounding communities in Eastern North Carolina with a population of approximately 60,000 people. On an annually basis, it serves 3,800 inpatients and over 52,000 outpatients (including nearly 30,0000 ED visits), in addition to a surgical volume of 2,050.

Position Summary

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population.
  • Acquires and evaluates clinical data from diagnostic studies, measurements, and monitoring, with consideration for the age and diagnosis of the patient, and reports to/consults with the ordering provider as needed.
  • Systematically assesses patients overall clinical status.
  • Initiates a nursing plan of care upon admission identifying primary problem, other active problems, goals and interventions.
  • Updates plan of care at least once per shift relative to progress made toward goals and/or discharge criteria.
  • Evaluates patients' responses to nursing care, and modifies the plan of care as needed to achieve desired therapeutic objectives.
  • Implements nursing care that is evidence-based and consistent with department policies, protocols, and procedures, the scope and standards of professional nursing practice, and high-quality health care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 - 4 years experience is required.
  • Current NC RN license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact state Health Care Provider is required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support is required.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to meet the twenty four (24) hour needs of the patients.
  • Possess organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to utilize effective and confidential communication in patient, interdisciplinary, and staff relationships.
  • Maintains stable performance levels under conditions of pressure and multiple demands.
  • Working knowledge and experience with PC-based applications.
  • Associates Degree in Nursing.
  • NRP certification.  If not current at time of hire, must complete and maintain within first 12 months of employment.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.  If not current at time of hire, must complete and maintain within first 30 days of employment.
