Primary Population:

The population consists of multiple types of general surgery patients and includes the following: 

  • Multisystem and isolated trauma
  • Traumatic Head Injuries 
  • Bone Fractures                 
  • Kidney and Pancreas Transplants
  • Complex Wounds                                          
  • Spinal Injuries                   
  • Cardiac Arrythmias
  • Respiratory insufficiency, including ventilator patients
  • Complex fluid and medication management
  • Single and/or Multisystem injury complications
  • Complex wounds
  • Transplant Patients
  • Services also include patient education related to surgical procedures, disease processes, diagnostic procedures and trach care.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines such as Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Unit based Case Management and Social Work.

Team Approach:

  • Patient education related to surgical procedures, disease processes, diagnostic procedures and care after discharge.
  • Work collaboratively with other disciplines such as Physical Therapy, Respiratory Therapy, Unit based Case Management and Social Work.
  • Care for overflow of populations such as medicine, cardiac, and neuro patients at times.

Minimum Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in the state of North Carolina or temporary North Carolina licensure or meet requirements to hold RN licensure in a compact state.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) required.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit requirements.
